About The Organisation

Goulburn Region Tourism Incorporated (GRT) is the new Visitor Economy Partnership (VEP) for the Goulburn region, encompassing Mitchell Shire Council, Strathbogie Shire Council, and Greater Shepparton City Council. Our mission is to drive sustainable tourism growth, support local businesses, and showcase the unique attractions of the beautiful region. As a new partnership between local government, state government, and the tourism industry, GRT aims to enhance leadership, collaboration, and support for the visitor economy.

Selection Criteria

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Independent Chair to lead our Board of Directors. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction, governance, and leadership to ensure the continued growth and success of the organisation. This role is pivotal in leading the establishment of the organisation in collaboration with founding members and funding partners. You will support the new CEO to deliver on strategic priorities and preparation of board papers and reports in line with the incorporated association and funding partner requirements. The Independent Chair will provide leadership and direction to the Board of Directors, ensuring the organisation’s governance framework is effective and adhered to. They will lead the development and implementation of strategic plans, foster strong relationships with stakeholders and partners, oversee financial performance, and advocate for the Goulburn region as a premier tourist destination on major and strategic visitor economy related matters.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a chair role, preferably within an aligned sector. They should have a strong understanding of corporate governance principles, exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. The ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships is essential, along with a passion for promoting regional tourism and economic development. Key attributes include demonstrated success in lobbying and advocacy outcomes, high-level communication and negotiation skills, and experience with stakeholder engagement, including all levels of government. A background in regional Victoria and/or the visitor economy, and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors or similar, will be highly regarded.
